J'utilise Debian 7 (Wheezy) AMD64.

Il est probablement tard, mais voici un moyen de résoudre ce problème. Essaye ça:
dpkg --add-architecture i386
apt-get update
apt-get install libc6:i386
Le ia32-libs peut-être ont été supprimés dans la version ultérieure. Et je n'ai aucun moyen de résoudre ce problème.
Enfin, je trouve que je devrais installer libc6-i386 au lieu de ia32-libs.
Lorsque j'essaie d'installer libc6-i386, les informations suivantes sont affichées pour moi:

J'ai déjà utilisé la version stable. Je passe donc à la version de test et installe libc6-i386 encore une fois réussi.
Maintenant, j'ai résolu ce problème et je peux exécuter une application 32 bits, bien que je ne sache pas pourquoi j'ai besoin d'un package en version test pour installer le package (libc6-i386) en version stable.
Vous pouvez également utiliser aptitude pour l'installer:

Il installera toutes les dépendances nécessaires pour ia32-libs.
Dans mon cas, il y avait un problème supplémentaire avec les préférences d'épinglage dans/etc/apt/preferences.
Quand je les mets juste pour soutenir stable

apt a finalement trouvé le moyen de faire la mise à niveau dist appropriée. Je ne sais pas pourquoi mais quand j'ai installé mon système (début 2012), la ligne spécifiant le dégagement des broches se lisait comme suit:
Pin: release n=stable
il y avait donc un "n" au lieu d'un "a". Changer cela fonctionnait comme un charme.
Voici ce qui l'a corrigé pour moi. Dans mes référentiels, j'avais une source de CD-ROM qui était le disque d'installation d'origine, donc quand j'exécutais la mise à jour d'apt-get, j'obtenais une erreur sur apt-get ne pouvant pas ajouter de référentiels de cd-rom et que les anciens index seraient utilisés (je n'ai pas l'erreur exacte ... mon terminal l'a juste poussé hors du tampon).
J'ai donc supprimé la source du cd-rom de la liste des référentiels (en synaptique), exécuté à nouveau la mise à jour apt-get, puis j'ai pu installer les ia32-libs.
Une possibilité qui a été suggérée est d'installer libc6: i386.
Malheureusement, l'installation de libc6: 386 peut entraîner la suppression des composants principaux et rendre votre système instable. Vous recevrez un message disant "Vous êtes sur le point de faire quelque chose de potentiellement dangereux. Pour continuer, tapez la phrase 'Oui, fais ce que je dis!'"
Installez plutôt libc6-i386.
