LIMITE groupée dans PostgreSQL: affichez les N premières lignes pour chaque groupe?

Je dois prendre les N premières lignes pour chaque groupe, classées par colonne personnalisée.

Étant donné le tableau suivant:

J'ai besoin des 2 premiers rangs (classés par prénom) pour chaque section_id, c’est-à-dire un résultat similaire à:

Depuis la v9.3, vous pouvez faire une jointure latérale

select distinct t_outer.section_id, t_top.id, t_top.name from t t_outer
join lateral (
    select * from t t_inner
    where t_inner.section_id = t_outer.section_id
    order by t_inner.name
    limit 2
) t_top on true
order by t_outer.section_id;

C'est peut-être plus rapide mais, bien sûr, vous devez tester les performances spécifiquement sur vos données et votre cas d'utilisation.
